The 2024 Xiang-E Longfeng Marathon is an A1 category event certified by the Chinese Athletics Association. The course spans two provinces and features the unique Tujia and Miao ethnic styles. There are four events: the marathon, the half marathon, the Longteng Health Run, and the Fengwu Joy Run, all starting at Chaxi Tai Square in Laifeng County. The marathon and half marathon also finish at Chaxi Tai Square, while the finish line for the Longteng Health Run is at the Longshan County Sports Stadium, and the finish for the Fengwu Joy Run is at the Longfeng Sports Center in Laifeng County. The race route covers major avenues, core business districts, and cultural and tourism landmarks of both locations, allowing participants to appreciate the natural beauty, urban beauty, and cultural beauty of the two places.

Ms. Qin, a resident of Laifeng County, pushed her four-year-old child in a stroller to participate in the event. She expressed that she didn’t care about the race results; her main purpose was to let her child feel the joy of running and to develop a love for sports from an early age.

61-year-old Zhang Zhanhong, dressed in a “Ji Gong” monk’s robe and holding a battered fan, completed the half marathon in 2 hours and 14 minutes. Two days before the race, he traveled from his hometown of Tianmen to Enshi by high-speed train, visited Laifeng Xianfo Temple, Longshan Taiping Mountain, and other attractions, and attended the Tujia long-table banquet held on April 20. He was deeply impressed by the good ecology, unique cuisine, and simple folk customs of both places.

The event was organized by the people’s governments of Laifeng County and Longshan County, with technical guidance provided by the Chinese Athletics Association. This is the second time that the two counties have cooperated to host a cross-provincial marathon. To ensure the health and safety of participants, the organizing committee set up 16 supply stations and 21 medical points along the course, involving about 2,500 volunteers, emergency responders, and auxiliary police officers.
